Journalists STEVE CANNANE and ISABELLA HIGGINS named as new European correspondents for ABC News

ABC News has announced two new international correspondent appointments for its European bureau in London.

Steve Cannane has been announced as the networks new London Bureau Chief and will take up his role in late August. Steve has spent the past 3-years as a senior journalist with ABC Investigations.

During this time he’s covered a number of exclusive and original stories for different platforms including 730, Four Corners and Background Briefing. Steve’s experience in Europe is extensive.

In his previous role as an international correspondent, he covered terrorist attacks in London, Nice, Manchester and Barcelona, the Grenfell Tower fire, elections in the UK, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands as well as the Brexit referendum in the UK.

ABC News has also confirmed Isabella Higgins is the networks new Europe Correspondent.

For the past three years, Isabella has been the Indigenous Affairs Reporter, covering Australia’s suicide crisis, deaths in custody and  the fight for justice for murdered and missing Indigenous women.

Through hard work and determination, Isabella has elevated this round, giving a voice to Indigenous communities by telling their stories with passion and sensitivity. She won the Shortform Journalism category at the Walkley Young Awards in 2019 and has been a guest on ABC’s Insiders. 

The two journalists will join the ABC’s existing team in London which includes; Roscoe Whalan, Nick Dole, Jack Hawke, Tim Stevens, Andrew Greaves and Simon May.
