BritBox is increasing its subscription fees for Aussie subscribers, with the monthly plan rising from $9.99 to $13.99 and the annual fee jumping to $139.99 from 31 July 2025.
As part of the changes, subscribers can also expect new ad-free channels (BBC First, BBC Entertain, and BBC Select), expanded genre collections, more 4K UHD content, and increased download options.
“BritBox’s vision is about being the best curators of British television,” said Moira Hogan, the Executive VP of International Markets and GM of BritBox Australia told Rob McKnight in a new interview with TV Blackbox.
“We focus on quality content from the UK — the best of British storytelling, great narratives, authentic characters, wonderful production values — and we put it all in one place.”
In an email sent out to subscribers, BritBox said the pricing update reflects its growing slate of exclusive shows—including Towards Zero, Death Valley, and Outrageous—alongside returning favourites like Shetland, Call the Midwife, and Death in Paradise.
Launched in Australia in late 2020, BritBox is a subscription streaming service owned and programmed by BBC Studios, largely catering to fans of British television with a focus on crime dramas, mysteries, period pieces, and beloved classics.
“We’ve heard loudly from our customers — they want more new, more territory premiere shows,” Hogan went on to say.
“What we’ve added is more ways to watch them… it’s really simple to just switch on to a live stream, but also dive deeper into the on-demand catalogue.”
The three new BritBox-exclusive streaming channels include:
BBC First: The home of high-quality drama, bringing viewers some of the UK’s most compelling and critically acclaimed series. From gripping crime thrillers to sweeping period dramas, BBC First offers a curated selection of top-tier storytelling. Content highlights include new and exclusive dramas Beyond Paradise and The Bay, period pieces such as Call the Midwife and Outrageous as well as Agatha Christie murder mystery, Towards Zero.
BBC Entertain: A general entertainment channel that delivers a mix of comedy, drama and lifestyle content including the best of British comedy and quiz shows. On BBC Entertain viewers will find British comedies such as Richard Osman’s House of Games, iconic drama series including Shakespeare & Hathaway along with Doc Martin, and quiz shows and lifestyle titles such as QI and Would I Lie To You?, along with the latest seasons of 8 Out of 10 Cats.
BBC Select: The destination for unmissable world-renowned documentaries with iconic presenters David Attenborough, Brian Cox and Michael Mosley amongst the notable names showcasing the wonder of nature, science, travel, adventure, true crime, and incredible human stories. Enjoy exploring shows such as Life Below Zero, Frozen Planet and Africa, plus much more.
To soften the blow, BritBox is offering new and returning subscribers a limited-time deal: sign up before 30 June 2025 to lock in an annual subscription at $129.99—saving $10 on the new full-year rate.
The new features will begin rolling out from 3 June, with the price change taking effect on subscribers’ first bill after 31 July.
