Melbourne’s St Kilda Beach turned into a surreal scene yesterday morning as 200 Squid Game guards in pink jumpsuits and masks swarmed the iconic location.
The spectacle marked the first of three Australian takeovers to promote the highly anticipated Season 2 of Squid Game, which premieres on Netflix on December 26.
The guards, an iconic symbol from the global phenomenon Squid Game, participated in quintessential beachside activities while marking the beginning of Netflix’s Australian campaign for the show’s upcoming second season.
The promotion follows the world premiere of Season 2, held the night before in Seoul, Korea. As the guards made their presence felt on the sand, Netflix teased two more Australian landmark takeovers in the lead-up to the new season’s release.
Season 2 sees the return of Player 456, played by Lee Jung-jae, who re-enters the high-stakes survival game with a new determination. Original cast members Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo also reprise their roles, alongside a star-studded ensemble of new participants.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who made Emmy history with Season 1, returns to helm the series.
