Is the end nigh for MILLIONAIRE HOT SEAT?

Aussie fans of Nine’s addictive afternoon game show Tipping Point will be pleased to know a local version is in production.

Well, sort of.

Just like Nine’s plan to record episodes of Jeopardy in the UK with expats and Aussie tourists, Nine want to do the same with Tipping Point.

It’s not known whether UK host Ben Shephard will front the episodes or if he will be replaced by an Australian presenter.

The news comes as rumours continue to swirl that Millionaire Hot Seat is facing the axe.

Despite the show recently celebrating 2,500 episodes, Nine Newsrooms around the country are concerned the Eddie McGuire show does not provide the big audience lead-in it once did.

Discussions have been taking place for some time in executive ranks about the future of the show and possible replacements, most notably Tipping Point.

A local edition is seen as having the best chance of taking on The Chase with Larry Emdur at 5pm.

On Tuesday, Tipping Point was in the Top 20 most watched programs with 220,000 viewers.

That’s not bad for a 3pm game show!

While production is in the early stages, keep an eye on this one and let’s see where Nine put these Aussie specials.

My guess is it will be a stunt replacing Hot Seat for a couple of weeks, or a month, to test the waters.

If you know anyone in the UK who would like to take part, they can send an email to: [email protected]

*Nine has been approached for comment

  1. The hot seat has Been thrashed in the ratings for years ., So nine have suddenly realised it .?
It has never beaten 7s THE CHASE .

  2. Of course. Heaven forbid any Network create an original series. Safer for executives’ jobs to buy a foreign format and then make a local version which meets the official criteria for ‘locally produced content’. So sorry for genuine local writers, creators and producers.

  3. Great to see Nine investing in a local version of Tipping Point. The British version of the show has become a regular in the daily top 20 programs, and has achieved similar ratings to the 5pm portion of Hot Seat. A local version would potentially be a good contender to replace Hot Seat entirley, should Nine wish to go that route.
