A global hit and long-time fan favourite, Wentworth has written its own chapter in Australian television history since its premiere in 2013, leaving an indelible mark on the international television landscape where it has screened in more than 170 territories to critical acclaim. Over the years, the award-winning series has featured 24 main and 48 supporting cast, including some of Australia and New Zealand’s biggest stars.

Bernard Curry who plays Jake Stewart in Wentworth said:

“We are so thrilled that after having to say goodbye to this incredible ground-breaking drama that we all so adored, we get a little parting gift of an AACTA Award. We always knew that the fans of this show are incredibly passionate people. This just proves it.”

Scott Ryan, creator, writer, and star of the critically acclaimed drama Mr Inbetween took home two awards at tonight’s ceremony for his ground-breaking work on the third and final season of the Foxtel Original series: Best Lead Actor in a Drama and Best Screenplay in Television (for Episode 6).

The Foxtel Original series has attracted widespread acclaim since the season one premiere and stars Scott Ryan as Ray Shoesmith, a man who ‘takes care of people’ — collecting debts, relieving them of drugs and guns, and often taking care of them on a more permanent basis. As Ray’s increasingly volatile work collides with his imploding personal life, he finds himself struggling to stay atop the complex web he has woven.

On winning Best Screenplay in Television, Scott Ryan said:

“It’s a real honour and I am pretty stoked. I consider myself a writer first and foremost, so to receive an award for my writing is pretty great”.

Grand Designs Australia took out the award for Best LifeStyle Program, for one its most emotionally charged series to date. Hosted by multi award-winning architect Peter Maddison, Grand Designs Australia follows new homeowners, all of whom are driven visionaries and their remarkable journeys, as these ambitious and resilient architectural trailblazers push their finances and their families to the limit in their quest to create remarkable one-off homes. Grand Designs Australia returns for its 10th season in 2022.

Host Peter Maddison said:

“This award means the world to me and is the culmination of ten years of honing a craft and working with amazing home owners who opened their lives to us, and that’s a privilege. Also to be recognised by our industry is the ultimate.”

Brian Walsh, Executive Director of Television at Foxtel Group said:

“We want to congratulate all the winners and nominees at this year’s AACTA Awards. It has been an incredible year for Australian storytelling despite the hurdles thrown at the industry. We are particularly thrilled to see Wentworth, Mr Inbetween and Grand Designs recognised with wins tonight and know the love and support for these Original series continue to live on with millions of fans right around Australia.”

All seasons of Wentworth, Mr Inbetween and Grand Designs Australia are available to watch On Demand on Foxtel.

The 2021 AACTA Awards Ceremony presented by Foxtel Group was held at the iconic Sydney Opera House on Wednesday, December 8 and will be broadcast on FOX ARENA on Foxtel and BINGE, on Saturday, December 11 at 8.30pm.
