Hit Patrick Swayze documentary kicks off a celebration of Dirty Dancing on Seven.

Channel Seven is set to get dirty this month, celebrating the biggest dance and romance movie of all time, Dirty Dancing.

Seven’s season of Dirty Dancing kicks off with a new documentary honouring the life and legacy of legendary Hollywood star Patrick Swayze. Then, relive the classic love story of Baby and Johnny with a special screening of the iconic 1987 hit film. This will be followed closely by the premiere of hotly anticipated celebrity event series, THE REAL DIRTY DANCING.

Watched by millions in the US last month, I AM PATRICK SWAYZE is a loving tribute to the prolific actor that showcases his life and career through untold stories, exclusive interviews, heartfelt home movies, and family photos. The film explores his childhood in Texas and his enduring relationship with widow Lisa Niemi Swayze - whom he met as a teenager at his mother’s dance studio - and delves into his remarkable film career working on huge blockbuster hits like Dirty Dancing, The Outsiders and Ghost. The film features interviews with Swayze’s friends, family and co-stars including Sam Elliott, Jennifer Grey, C. Thomas Howell, Rob Lowe, Kelly Lynch, Demi Moore and Lori Petty.

 

DIRTY DANCING

In the Summer of 1963, innocent 17-year-old “Baby” Houseman (Jennifer Grey) holidays with her parents at a Catskills resort. One evening she is drawn to staff quarters by stirring music and there she meets Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze), the hotel dance instructor, who is as experienced as Baby is naïve. She soon becomes Johnny’s pupil in dance and in love.

 

THE REAL DIRTY DANCING

Event Series Premiere - Monday, September 30 at 7.30pm

Eight Australian celebrities travel to the original ‘Kellerman’s Resort’ filming location in Virginia where they undergo an immersive Dirty Dancing experience, recreating memorable movie moments and learning the iconic dance routines under the guidance of choreographers Todd McKenney and Kym Johnson-Herjavec. Taking part are Anne Edmonds, Anna Heinrich, Stephanie Rice, Jessica Rowe, Hugh Sheridan, Firass Dirani, Jamie Durie and Jude Bolton. Their ultimate goal is to be chosen to perform as Baby and Johnny in a one-off live theatre show back in Australia, where they will re-enact the film’s final ‘(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life’ dance, including the lift. Which guy has the Swayze swagger? Who will be the ultimate Baby?
