BBC First celebrates 25th anniversary of SILENT WITNESS

BBC First is celebrating 25 years of the hugely popular crime series Silent Witness this May with series 25 premiering at 10.00am from May 24.

Amanda Burton returns to reprise her role of Sam Ryan alongside series regulars Emilia Fox and David Caves with Genesis Lynea re-joining the cast as Simone Tyler.

The longest-running crime drama currently airing on TV returns with six thrilling new episodes, opening in Liverpool with an assassination attempt and Sam Ryan calling on the Lyell team with a plea for help seventeen years after leaving the Lyell.

The shooting of the Health Secretary pulls the Lyell into a world of duplicity, intrigue and betrayal. Soon Nikki starts to suspect the Sam knows more than she’s letting on. When the credibility of DNA – the bedrock of forensic science – is challenged, everything the Lyell holds dear comes under threat. Uncertain of who to trust, the team’s investigation draws them into perilous confrontations as they fight to uncover the truth and protect everything they love.

Amanda Burton makes a return to series 25 and first appeared in the lead role of pathologist Sam Ryan in 1996, starring in 54 episodes before leaving in 2004.

Over its 24 seasons Silent Witness has featured appearances from Idris Elba, Benedict Cumberbatch, Daisy Ridley, Nicholas Hoult, Jack Dee, Tamsin Egerton, Jason Watkins, Emily Mortimer, Jodie Comer, Martin Compston and Daniel Kaluuya.

Silent Witness has been hugely successful, with average audiences of over seven million per week in the UK and has been one BBC’s iPlayer’s most-requested shows. Over 200 episodes have been produced during it’s incredible 25 year run.

Silent Witness – Series 25 will be fast tracked from the UK, airing on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10.00am from May 24. BBC First will also encore double episodes on Thursdays at 8.30pm.
