The HBO drama series Succession has taken a commanding lead in this year’s Emmy Awards with a staggering 27 nominations.

The Sydney-born Sarah Snook, who portrays Siobhan Roy in the series, has also been nominated in the Best Actress category, adding another laurel to the acclaimed series.

In an unprecedented move, three actors from Succession – Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, and Kieran Culkin – have all received nominations in the Best Actor category. This achievement marks the first time in Emmy Awards history that three performers from the same series have been nominated for the lead actor awards in the same year.

The Best Drama series category will see Succession vying against The Last of Us, Andor, Better Call Saul, The Crown, The White Lotus, House of the Dragon, and Yellowjackets.

HBO’s adaptation of the video game The Last of Us has made a remarkable debut with 24 nominations, including those for actors Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal.

Pascal, who also had roles in Saturday Night Live and Patagonia: Life on the Edge of the World, set a record by becoming the most-nominated Latino actor in a single year.

The Best Actor category includes some tough competition with Jeff Bridges being nominated for The Old Man and Bob Odenkirk receiving a nod for the final season of Better Call Saul.

Meanwhile, the Best Actress category will see Snook and Ramsey competing with Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters), Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets), Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale), and Keri Russell (The Diplomat).

In the Best Comedy category, the nominations include Ted Lasso, Barry, Only Murders in the Building, Abbott Elementary, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Wednesday, The Bear, and Jury Duty.

The 75th Annual Emmys will take into account shows that aired between June 1, 2022, and May 31, 2023. The award ceremony is currently scheduled to be held at the Peacock Theatre on September 18, while the Creative Arts ceremonies will take place earlier, on September 9 and 10.

However, due to a potential interruption from the Writer’s Strike and the looming SAG-AFTRA dispute, the awards could be postponed to as late as January.
