Our tiniest chef with the biggest flavours, Georgia, 11 from Victoria, has been crowned the winner of Junior MasterChef Australia for 2020.

Facing off against kitchen heavyweights, Filo and Carter, Georgia payed homage to her Sri Lankan roots, in a feast fit for a Grand Finale.

Having started the competition as one of 14 gourmet prodigies, Georgia, Filo and Carter were asked to create a main and a dessert for the Grand Final. With two rounds of cooking standing between them and the trophy, our junior chefs were ecstatic to learn their mums would be joining them as special guests.

For her main, Georgia chose to showcase her Sri Lankan heritage, and whip up an ambitious six-element main course. Impressed by how much she’d achieved in only 90 minutes, the judges were blown away by Georgia’s curries.

Playing to his strengths, Carter created a mouth-watering modern Australian dish of lamb, pea and mint. The judges adored Carter’s perfectly cooked lamb but noted his cauliflower and leek puree was a little grainy.

Diving into a seafood dish, Filo chose the finale main course of fried shrimp and spicy rice, with fried parsnip and creamy garlic ginger sauce. Blown away by how tasty the prawns were, the judges were impressed that Filo managed to put his own personal stamp on the dish.

With mains done and dusted, our chefs had sweet dessert thoughts on their mind. Georgia made a complex toasted coconut ice cream slice. When a few components didn’t properly set, she used some quick and creative thinking to ditch the ice cream slice presentation and re-named it “tropical mess”.

Using tried and tested classic flavours of vanilla, raspberry and chocolate, Carter served the judges a punchy, flavour-packed dessert.
Creating a chocolate-lovers dream, Filo impressed the judges with a hazelnut cake coated in chocolate hazelnut mousse, glazed in a chocolate mirror glaze and a strawberry sorbet.

In the final verdict of the competition, the judges had the tough decision of crowning a winner. By asking themselves which menu they would most like to eat again, they noted one menu stood out amongst the others.

Georgia and her mum were overjoyed to learn that the Junior MasterChef Australia title was Georgia’s. She also was awarded $25,000 in prize money.

Carter and Filo congratulated Georgia and were so happy to have competed in the Grand Finale and make so many friends throughout the competition. Andy told them they both won $5,000 to go towards their food dream.

All that was left to do was for Georgia to lift the trophy above her head, celebrating her win with great joy.
