Prominent Rugby League journalist and Fox Sports presenter, Paul Kent, has been arrested and charged with domestic violence offences following an incident at his home in Sydney’s inner west.
Kent, who is the cohost of the popular Fox League program NRL360, is facing charges of common assault and choking a person without consent.
The SMH reports officers from the Leichhardt Police Area Command responded to a distress call from Kent’s Lilyfield residence around 10:30am on Friday. Reports indicate a domestic dispute between Kent and a 33-year-old woman, who are known to each other.
Police allege that an argument ensued between the two parties before Kent assaulted the woman. Following the incident, both Kent and the woman were arrested.
Kent was transported to Surry Hills Police Station where he was formally charged. The woman was taken to Newtown Police Station but was later released without charge.
News Corp, in a statement, announced that Kent would be temporarily relieved of his duties at The Daily Telegraph and Fox Sports amid the ongoing investigation. The statement read,
“Paul Kent has been stood down from his duties with News Corp and Fox Sports while he deals with this personal matter.”
Kent has been granted bail and is expected to appear in court next Wednesday.
