As part of NAIDOC Week celebrations last month, MTV launched a new music channels initiative, Indigenous Artist Of The Moment.

The second artist to be highlighted is 26-year-old, proud Māori Artist, Rei. The Auckland-based bilingual rapper, singer and producer firmly represents the next generation of Aotearoa artists.

Rei has set his sights on taking New Zealand’s unique culture to the world through music. Writing his own songs, beats and raps, Rei blends Māori language and haka seamlessly into his own style of urban music.

Already a multi award winning artist (Rei has taken out 3 Waiata Māori Music Awards for – Best Urban Album in 2015 and 2017 and Best Video in 2016), Rei is an intelligent, hardworking musician who takes his craft seriously.

Rei’s third album, The Bridge has debuted as the #1 NZ album on iTunes, and features his US Viral Chart #1 hit, Good Mood.

Rei’s videos, including his most recent release Hoea will be featured on MTV Hits all month.

Each month, MTV will continue to shine a spotlight on an Indigenous artist and their music. The music channels initiative is set to amplify not only an artist’s music but their stories about culture.
