The Australian television industry is preparing to pay tribute to one of its most respected figures, the late Brian Walsh, at the upcoming 63rd TV WEEK Logie Awards.

Today’s announcement confirmed Brian Walsh’s posthumous induction into the Hall of Fame in recognition of his significant contribution to the local television industry. The prestigious event will take place on Sunday, 30 July at Sydney’s renowned entertainment venue, The Star.

Walsh, who passed away on 16 March 2023, left an indelible mark on the television landscape. His career, which spanned more than four decades, was characterised by his ability to drive success on a global scale, particularly evident in his stewardship of the iconic series Neighbours.

This quintessentially Australian drama brought international fame for stars Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, and Guy Pearce, testament to Walsh’s discerning eye for talent and compelling storytelling.

His leadership extended beyond public television. In 1995, Walsh played an instrumental role in shaping Australian subscription television, leading the establishment of Foxtel.

In his nearly three-decade tenure at Foxtel, Walsh acted as the creative fulcrum for all scripted and unscripted commissions. This expansive portfolio included beloved television series such as Wentworth, Upright, Deadline Gallipoli, The Kettering Incident, and The End.

More recently, he spearheaded the development of award-winning series Love Me, Colin from Accounts and The Twelve, with the latter notably being the most nominated drama at this year’s Logies. Walsh’s persistent drive for excellence led Foxtel to receive more than 100 awards under his watch, proving his undeniable value to the organisation and the industry as a whole.

Music will play play a significant role this Logies with celebrated songwriter Amy Shark set to perform her hit single, Can I Shower At Yours. Not just contributing to the night’s entertainment, Shark is also nominated for the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent, following her role as a judge on Seven’s reboot of Australian Idol.

Electronic music duo Peking Duk will add to the evening’s excitement, performing a medley of their greatest hits. Known for their electrifying performances, the ARIA Award-winning act has already received 26 Platinum accreditations and over half a billion combined streams.

The NSW Government proudly supports the TV WEEK Logie Awards through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW. This continued support underscores the value and importance of the awards in promoting local talent and Sydney as a premier events destination.

The Seven Network will proudly broadcast the event. The evening’s red-carpet proceedings will be exclusively hosted by Sonia Kruger and Chris Brown on Channel 7 and 7plus from 7.00pm. The baton will then pass to Sam Pang, who will host the live awards ceremony from 7.30pm, promising an evening of celebration, honour, and entertainment that acknowledges the very best in Australian television.
