In one of the more bizarre scheduling decisions recently, 10 previously announced docuseries The Hunt For The Family Court Killer would premiere tonight at 8:30pm, though we can confirm it will no longer be premiering this evening.
The new four-part true crime series was originally set to follow Jamie Oliver’s new series 5 Ingredient Mediterranean tonight, however you only need to listen to the TV Blackbox podcast to know that “Jamie Oliver does not rate in Australia” as sung by our own Rob McKnight, so it’s baffling as to why new local content would be relegated to such a poor timeslot.
In fact, if 10’s own website 10play.com.au is to be believed the carrousel at the top of the page still has it being promoted for this evening as of the time of publication of this article, though the series has since been bumped to now premiere next Wednesday 6th December in the later slot of 9:30pm – sandwiched between a repeat of Law & Order: SVU and the low rating My Life Is Murder, and continues on Thursday night at the same time.
The 4 part docuseries was first announced back in November of 2021 after receiving production funding from Screen Australia and is produced by Easy Tiger, the same production company responsible for Paramount+ Original Series One Night and true crime documentary Lindy Chamberlain: The True Story which premiered on Network 10 in 2020.
10 should be applauded for continuing first run programming into summer after just wrapping the successful first season of MasterChef spin-off series Dessert Masters, and with another season of The Bachelors set to launch this Sunday night, they are certainly not following the usual switch off from the networks during the non-ratings period which begins this Sunday night.
It’s understood the series may also be made available to Paramount+ subscribers, according to this Deadline article from last month.
