The highly anticipated Los Angeles Dodgers debut of Major League Baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani will be live on ESPN when the Dodgers and the San Diego Padres head to Korea for the MLB World Tour: Seoul Series.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres will open the 2024 Major League Baseball season LIVE on ESPN at 9pm AEDT Wednesday March 20.

The season opening clash will come from the Gocheok Skydome in Seoul, Korea as part of the 2024 MBL World Tour: Seoul Series – the first regular season games to be held in Korea.

The Dodgers stole all the headlines in the Major League Baseball off-season via a $1 billion spending spree that secured pitchers Tyler Glasnow, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and superstar, Shohei Ohtani.

Ohtani left the Los Angeles Angels for the Dodgers, as part of a reported $700 million USD 10-year deal.

The Japanese superstar is the reigning American League MVP and a global powerhouse. The MLB’s trip to Asia will have Ohtani front and centre as he remains one of the most followed and marketable players in world sport.

Glasnow is expected to be the starting pitcher for the Dodgers in Game One against the Padres with Yamamoto taking the mound for Game Two.

Yamamoto became one of the highest paid players in Major League Baseball history, signing a 12-year $325 million USD contract.

Los Angeles and San Diego will meet in the second game of the Seoul Series on Thursday March 21 LIVE at 9pm, this time on ESPN2.

Given the off-season expenditure, expectation will be high on the Dodgers this season.

Los Angeles finished the 2023 MLB regular season as the second seed in the National League but were swept in three games in the Division Series by the Arizona Diamondbacks, ending hopes of an elusive World Series crown.

The Padres finished in third spot, behind the Dodgers in the National League West conference and missed the MLB Playoffs entirely – an underwhelming performance, given they started the season as one of the World Series contenders.

San Diego are not short on stars themselves, featuring the likes of All-Star, Fernando Tatis Jr and Manny Machado. The two will look to steal the spotlight from the new-look Dodgers.

It means both the Dodgers and Padres will be keen to begin the new Major League Baseball season with victory in the Seoul Series – two games that will have the baseball world watching.
