Key Points

  • A new Australian family feature film, Allen, is now filming in Queensland for global release on Netflix.
  • The film comes from Daley Pearson, Executive Producer of the hit series Bluey, and is produced by Ludo Studio.
  • Allen is supported by the Queensland Government and aims to showcase the region’s coastal landscapes and talent.

Set in a Queensland coastal town, Allen follows a story of friendship and adventure. According to its creators, the film aims to capture the spirit of childhood and the formative experiences that shape individuals.

The production has received support from the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy and the Post, Digital and Visual Effects (PDV) Incentive. Speaking on behalf of the government, Minister for the Arts, John-Paul Langbroek said:

“Ludo Studio is a Queensland entrepreneurial success story. The Crisafulli Government, through Screen Queensland, is thrilled to support their first locally made, live-action feature film.

Filmed at Screen Queensland Studios in Brisbane, this Netflix production will share our state’s stories and showcase our beautiful Gold and Sunshine Coasts to the world.”

Daley Pearson described the film as deeply personal, reflecting on its origins:

“Allen is really a story about love, family and all those big and small moments from childhood that end up shaping who we are when we grow up.

Getting the opportunity to make this story in this part of the world – in the town where I grew up in, inspired by the friends and family I grew up with – is a dream.

We’re creating Allen for families to watch together.”

Minyoung Kim, Netflix Vice President, Content APAC, said:

“The team at Ludo Studio are among Australia’s most exceptional storytellers, injecting this film with their characteristic relatability and wit.

We are delighted to create a film that the entire family can enjoy, and the Queensland coast provides the perfect, heartwarming backdrop for this tale.”

Allen will join Netflix’s expanding lineup of Australian titles, which includes previously released films and series such as The Survivors, Apple Cider Vinegar, Territory, and Boy Swallows Universe. Upcoming projects include Son of a Donkey, the third season of Heartbreak High, and My Brilliant Career.
