Prime Video has confirmed its new action-comedy Heads of State, starring Idris Elba and John Cena, will premiere globally on July 2, 2025.

The film centres on the not-so-friendly relationship between UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke (Elba) and U.S. President Will Derringer (Cena), who are forced to set aside their public rivalry when they find themselves targeted by a dangerous foreign adversary.

With their security teams compromised, the two leaders must rely on each other — and the help of MI6 agent Noel Bisset (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) — to unravel a global conspiracy threatening the free world.

The film reunites Elba and Cena for the first time since The Suicide Squad, though this time they’re (mostly) on the same side. Also starring are Carla Gugino, Jack Quaid, Stephen Root, Sarah Niles, Richard Coyle and Paddy Considine.

Heads of State is directed by Ilya Naishuller (Hardcore Henry, Nobody) and written by Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec and Harrison Query, from a story by Query. It is produced by Peter Safran and John Rickard, with Elba and Cena also listed as executive producers.

Billed as a throwback to the buddy action comedies of the ’90s, the film combines fast-paced stunts with comedic banter, as the pair of world leaders go on the run — and try not to kill each other along the way.

Heads of State premieres July 2 on Prime Video.
