Following its record-breaking debut on Paramount+, the gripping multi–AACTA Award nominated Australian drama Fake will get a free-to-air run on 10 and 10 Play.

Inspired by journalist Stephanie Wood’s bestselling memoir, Fake delves into the unsettling world of romance scams, exploring themes of love, deception, and self-discovery. The eight-part series stars Gold Logie Award-winner Asher Keddie (OffspringLove My Way) as Birdie Bell, a successful magazine writer who becomes entangled in a complex relationship with the enigmatic Joe Burt, portrayed by acclaimed actor David Wenham (The Lord of the RingsTop of the Lake).

Convinced by her well-meaning friends and family that this could be her very own happily ever after, Birdie begins to believe that it is finally her chance to live the fairytale. As cracks start to form in Joe’s stories, Birdie soon discovers her boyfriend isn’t all he has led her to believe.

Upon its initial release, Fake became the biggest first-week launch of a local drama series since Paramount+ arrived in Australia, cementing its place as one of the most compelling and talked-about Australian series of 2024.

Critics have praised the series for its intense storytelling and powerful performances. The Sydney Morning Herald described the series as ‘one of the best Australian dramas of the decade,’ The Guardian praised Asher’s portrayal, saying that she “thrills in visceral drama about a romance scammer,” and Mamamia described the series as “an unsettling masterclass in gaslighting and emotional abuse.”

Fake is a Kindling Pictures production for Paramount+ Australia, with major production investment from Paramount ANZ and Screen Australia, in association with VicScreen. Entertainment One (eOne) handle international sales.

FAKE (8 eps) – premieres Sunday 25 May after MasterChef Australia on Channel 10 and 10 Play.
