GUEST PRESENTER JELENA DOKIC JOINS POSTCARDS THIS SUNDAY MAY 11

Join the Postcards team as guest presenter Jelena Dokic takes viewers around culture-rich suburban Northcote, this Sunday at 5.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

Jelena’s Northcote adventure (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country) in Melbourne’s inner north begins off the main drag at bakery Akimbo Bread. From there she heads to the Merri Creek Trail, a scenic route for walkers and cyclists that winds through the leafy landscape. Jelena returns to High Street to visit Free to Feed, a social enterprise connecting refugees and locals through the universal language of food.

Brodie Harper steps into the magical world of Middle Earth at the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country), where The Lord of the Rings: A Musical Tale is reimagining J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic story in spectacular musical form. She meets the cast and the creative team behind the production, including Rarmian Newton (Frodo), and sees how music, puppetry and stunning visuals bring Tolkien’s vision to life on stage. Around the corner Brodie grabs a coffee at Traveller, a beloved hole-in-the-wall café, before visiting Bard’s Apothecary, a quirky laneway bar where Melbourne’s creative spirit flows freely with local wines, craft beers and live performances.

Madeline Spark uncovers the rustic charm of Blackwood (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country), a hidden gem just over an hour’s drive north-west from Melbourne. At the picturesque Garden of St Erth she explores the manicured grounds and chats with the passionate head gardener about the seasonal blooms. She then strolls into town, to Martin St Coffee Roasters, a local institution for roasting top-tier beans and serving up delicious café fare. Maddie rounds out her day at the historic Blackwood Hotel, a recently refurbished country pub big on hearty meals, local brews and a welcoming atmosphere.

And Shane Delia travels east of Melbourne to see what’s cooking in Croydon (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country). The entree to his culinary journey is The Full Pantry, a wholefoods store and café popularised by its quality, affordable and healthy products. Shane then heads to MrT Deli on Main Street to indulge in the generously sized and delicious steak frites and classic chicken parma sandwiches. He bids adieu to Croydon at the Dainton Taphouse, where he says cheers to their award-winning beers and the weekly trivia night.

Guest presenter Jelena Dokic joins Postcards this Sunday, May 11, at 5:30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now in Victoria, check local guides for other states.
