After only a fortnight on air, Clarkson’s Who Wants to Be a Millionaire has vanished from Seven’s Wednesday night lineup.

The UK reboot of the long-running quiz show—hosted by Jeremy Clarkson—had been airing at 7.30pm, with episodes dating back to 2019.

Despite a short stint, the series struggled to make an impact, drawing 575,000 viewers in its debut week (April 30) and slipping to 539,000 in its second outing (May 7), landing fourth in its timeslot. Still, Seven managed to win both nights overall in total network share.

Strangely, while Clarkson’s Millionaire played out on Seven, viewers could flip over to Nine an hour later to catch Clarkson back behind the wheel in The Grand Tour—perhaps proving there is such a thing as too much Jeremy in one night.

Seven’s decision to air the older episodes came shortly after TV Blackbox broke the news in March that Network 10 was gearing up to revive Millionaire in Australia. While 10’s plans are yet to be officially confirmed, Seven’s move to air the UK version seemed like a strategic play—one that may not have landed as hoped.

The broadcaster has now slotted in repeats of The 1% Club UK hosted by Lee Mack from this week (May 14), returning to its well-worn strategy of programming imported British content mid-week, while keeping fresh local titles like Australian Idol, Farmer Wants a Wife, and The 1% Club Australia anchored earlier in the week.

The original UK reboot first aired in 2018, with the 2019 episodes Seven aired part of the show’s second season. The decision to use several-year-old episodes in a prime slot raised eyebrows, with the move seen by some as more filler than firepower.

Whether Seven revisits Millionaire again remains to be seen.

  1. 😆😅🤣😂trying to take over where Eddie’s version once upon a time left off at….failed miserably.

    • Andrew Venables Exactly, likely the usual lack of promotion, resulting in awful ratings, resulting in pulling a new show.

    • Oliver Naumoski Seven has got form when it comes to pulling shows off air after just a few episodes. Not the first time and definitely won’t be the last.

      • Shayn Wilesmith the Goldbergs was off after 2 weeks when it was premiered on Seven over ten years ago. And 31 years ago Grace Under Fire lasted all of 3 episodes in its Sunday night timeslot (beaten in the ratings by SBS). Everybody Loves Raymond also had a short stint on Seven, they ended up selling it to Ten where it was a ratings hit.
