The Seven Network is gearing up for a huge weekend of live sport, beginning with one of the AFL’s most significant fixtures: the ANZAC Day clash between Collingwood and Essendon.

The annual showdown will air live and free from the MCG, with full pre-game tributes and commentary, as part of a broader sporting schedule that also includes evening AFL, Group One horse racing, and LIV Golf across Seven.

ANZAC Day blockbuster leads a huge weekend of sport on Seven and 7plus Sport

One of the biggest occasions on the AFL fixture takes centre stage on the Seven Network tomorrow, when powerhouse clubs Collingwood and Essendon clash in the annual ANZAC Day match as part of an action-packed weekend of footy, live and free on Seven, 7mate and 7plus Sport.

Since their inaugural ANZAC Day match 30 years ago, the Magpies and Bombers have taken their longstanding rivalry to new heights with an epic series of matches in honour of the courageous ANZACs who served in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations – and particularly those who served in Gallipoli, where ANZAC forces landed on 25 April, 1915.

Kicking off from 2.00pm AEST on Friday, Seven will broadcast the full pre-game ceremony live and free, including the traditional ANZAC Day moment of silence and motorcade in front of a packed MCG, before the match coverage starts from 3.00pm.

The AFL action will continue into the night on ANZAC Day, when Fremantle take on the Adelaide Crows from 7.00pm AEST live and free on Seven, 7mate and 7plus Sport.

Football’s #1 commentary team will again lead Seven’s ANZAC Day coverage live from the MCG, featuring Bruce McAvaney, Brian Taylor, James Brayshaw, Matthew Richardson and Abbey Holmes.

Seven’s coverage will also include former Collingwood star, Dale “Daisy” Thomas, who knows ANZAC Day football better than anyone, having played seven times on the big occasion during his time at Collingwood.

Seven Network Director of Sport, Chris Jones, said:

With four epic AFL matches – including an ANZAC Day double header – plus state league footy, Group One horse racing and LIV Golf, there is something for all sport fans this week on Seven.

“There are few more meaningful football moments than when Collingwood and Essendon run out together for the ANZAC Day match.”

The game has become one of the AFL’s most respected traditions, on a day when Australians young and old pause to give thanks to the men and women who have served – and continue to serve – our country so bravely.
