Foxtel is launching two new additions to its movie channels lineup, Aussie Classics and British Cinema, celebrating iconic films from Australia and the UK.

The new British Cinema channel debuts on the service from today, with Aussie Classics launching next month on 25th March, though both channels will only be available in standard definition at launch.

Aussie Classics is the result of a partnership with Umbrella Entertainment, one of the leading distributors of classic Australian Television and film and will feature beloved titles such as BMX Bandits, Walkabout, Storm Boy, Don’s Party, Puberty Blues, Monkey Grip, CODA, The Lighthorsemen, Heartbreak High (TV), and Skippy (TV).

The channel is described as “A time capsule of Australia’s pioneers in television and cinema. A nostalgic look back to the stories and talents that made Aussie screen what it is today” and will be available on Foxtel Channel 414.

British Cinema is a collaboration with Australian film production and distribution company Transmission Films, offering hits like Slumdog Millionaire, Death at a Funeral, Churchill, Ammonite, I, Daniel Blake, Le Weekend, Stardust (David Bowie), Bend It Like Beckham, and Harry Brown.

It is described as “showcasing the rich history, influential figures and timeless stories that only the Brits can tell” and is available from today on Foxtel Channel 413.

The new channels will come as welcome news to Foxtel customers, who have been calling for fresh additions following the removal of several channels over the past year, amid growing frustration over rising subscription costs.

TV Blackbox understands both channels are permanent additions to Foxtel’s lineup and will be available as linear streams on BINGE, though video-on-demand (VOD) access to the film libraries will only be available to Foxtel customers.

British Cinema is available now on Foxtel and BINGE, with Aussie Classics to follow next month.
