Australian television has today lost one of its most beloved stars, with the passing of Marilyn Mayo this morning.

Known to generations of children as ‘Miss Marilyn’ on The Super Flying Fun Show in the 70’s, Mayo’s vibrant career spanned decades across TV favourites like Bandstand, Beauty and the Beast, and Holiday Island.

Showbiz expert Craig Bennett shared the sad news on his social media this morning as requested by Marilyn’s family, and paid tribute to the much-loved performer and friend.

Reflecting on their long friendship, Bennett said:

“We’d known each other since 1980 when she hired me as movie reviewer/presenter on The Harry & Ralph Show.”

He further went on to describe Marilyn Mayo as “a total one-off – a wonderful wit, whip-smart, and the best company,” adding that despite her health struggles in recent years, she remained “upbeat, greeted you with a warm smile always, and retained her stunning repartee to the end.

Vale Marilyn Mayo.
