Netflix is bringing fresh Australian stories to screens in 2025, with new originals The Survivors, Son of a Donkey, and Apple Cider Vinegar set to debut alongside global hits like Stranger Things and Squid Game.

Previously announced as part of Netflix’s upcoming slate, these local productions add to a packed year of films, new and returning series, and live events, promising something for every viewer.

Speaking at the company’s annual showcase of films, series and games coming in 2025, Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria said:

“No matter what you’re looking forward to this year, there’s no way to be completely ready for what’s next on Netflix”

Netflix has today unveiled the cast and first behind-the-scenes images for The Survivors, a new Australian crime-mystery series based on Jane Harper’s bestselling novel.

Starring Charlie Vickers (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), Robyn Malcolm (After the Party), and Jessica De Gouw (The Union), the series follows Kieran Elliott as he returns to his Tasmanian hometown, only to be confronted by a tragic past and a new murder that forces the community to uncover long-buried secrets.

Produced by Tony Ayres Productions (Fires, Clickbait), the series was filmed in Tasmania and Victoria, with support from VicScreen and Screen Tasmania. Tony Ayres serves as showrunner alongside a team of acclaimed Australian creatives, including directors Cherie Nowlan (La Brea) and Ben C Lucas (Nautilus).

The global streamer also released a new sneak peek of Son of a Donkey, the six-episode comedy series from Superwog creators Theo and Nathan Saidden.

The duo write, direct, produce, and star in the show, which follows Theo as he moves out to embrace independence—only to face adulthood’s chaos, from fines and scams to therapy and family drama.

Produced by Princess Pictures and filmed in Melbourne with support from VicScreen, Son of a Donkey brings back the Saiddens’ signature humor in a fresh, standalone series.

Ahead of its February premiere, Netflix has also released a new clip from Apple Cider Vinegar, a limited series inspired by real events about two young women who build a global wellness empire—on a foundation of lies.

Created by Samantha Strauss and directed by Jeffrey Walker, the series stars Kaitlyn Dever, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Aisha Dee, with production by See-Saw Films and Picking Scabs.

Shot in Melbourne with post-production in NSW, Apple Cider Vinegar explores the rise and fall of influencer culture and the power of online deception.
