Amazon Prime Video has announced the addition of Sony-owned Crunchyroll to its lineup of add-on streaming subscriptions in Australia, giving members access to one of the largest anime libraries globally.

Starting now, Australian Prime members can choose from two Crunchyroll subscription tiers: Fan, priced at $10.99 per month, and Mega Fan, at $13.99 per month.

Both options provide ad-free access to the full Crunchyroll library, including early releases of episodes shortly after their debut in Japan. The Mega Fan option also includes offline downloads, allowing subscribers to enjoy content without an active internet connection.

Crunchyroll, which hosts popular anime titles such as My Hero Academia, Wistoria: Wand and Sword, and Tower of God, boasts what it describes as the world’s largest streaming anime catalogue, featuring 24,000 hours of content, 46,000 episodes, and over 1,300 series and films. For October, Crunchyroll has added new releases including Dragon Ball DAIMA, BLUE LOCK Season 2, Shangri-La Frontier Season 2, and Re: ZERO – Starting Life in Another World Season 3.

In its most recent quarterly earnings report, Crunchyroll disclosed that it has now surpassed 15 million paid subscribers globally, reflecting the continued popularity of anime on a global scale.

This integration marks the 21st add-on subscription available for Amazon Prime Video users in Australia and follows a broader global agreement between the companies that began last year, initially launching the Crunchyroll add-on option in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Sweden.

Daniel Slepak, head of marketplace for Prime Video Canada, Australia and New Zealand, welcomed the addition, stating,

“Anime is hugely popular among Australians, and Prime Video is proud to continue to expand its unparalleled collection of premium entertainment with the introduction of Crunchyroll as an add-on subscription option.”

Slepak added that the service prioritises delivering top-tier content through a unified platform, expressing enthusiasm about the latest offering:

“Prime Video obsesses over providing customers with the best possible content offering in one single destination, and we are delighted to welcome Crunchyroll to our growing list of subscriptions in Australia.”

Crunchyroll’s EVP of Emerging Business, Terry Li, echoed Slepak’s excitement, noting that the partnership with Amazon Prime Video allows fans worldwide to experience anime through a broader platform. Li remarked, “With so many incredible series waiting to be discovered, now is the perfect time to get lost in the endless adventures anime has to offer on Crunchyroll.”

The partnership highlights Prime Video’s commitment to expanding its content library in line with the rising demand for anime content, particularly in Australia, where it is expected to attract dedicated anime fans looking for accessible streaming options.
