Cricket fans across the country will have the opportunity to catch all the action live and free, with broadcasts available on both Seven and, for the first time, 7plus Sport. The five-week tournament is set to kick off this Sunday, 27 October, with a double-header from Adelaide Oval, featuring a rematch of last season’s final.

The opening game will see the Adelaide Strikers face the Brisbane Heat at 1:30pm AEDT, followed by the Melbourne Renegades taking on the Sydney Sixers at 5:00pm AEDT. Coverage of both matches will be available on 7mate and 7plus Sport, ensuring comprehensive access for viewers.

Returning to Seven’s commentary team are familiar faces including Lisa Sthalekar, Trent Copeland, Alister Nicholson, and Katey Martin. They will be joined by Callum Ferguson, Kirby Short, and Emma Freedman, among others. New additions to the team include 7NEWS reporters Anna Hay and Theo Doropoulos, adding to the depth of coverage for this season.

In an exciting addition, former Australian cricket coach and Perth Scorchers mentor, Justin Langer, will make a guest appearance in the commentary box for one match during the 2024 season. Joining him for his debut as a commentator is current Perth Scorchers player Jason Behrendorff, who will offer a player’s perspective with fresh insights into the game.

Speaking about the upcoming season, Lisa Sthalekar highlighted the high stakes of the shortened tournament.

“With a condensed tournament, each WBBL match has increasingly high stakes this season, as teams really can’t afford to drop as many matches,” she said. The competitive edge, she noted, has only been sharpened by Australia’s recent T20 World Cup loss, heightening the intensity of the WBBL season.

Sthalekar also pointed to rising stars to watch out for, including Grace Parsons from the Brisbane Heat, who recently represented Australia A, and Hayley Silver-Holmes from the Hobart Hurricanes, who returns stronger after injury. Other players to watch include Ella Hayward and Milly Illingworth from the Melbourne Renegades, as well as Meg Lanning from the Melbourne Stars, whose return to the pitch is sure to make an impact.

“She will make everyone smile, except the bowlers bowling to her!” Sthalekar added.

The coverage continues later in the week, with the Sydney Thunder set to play the Hobart Hurricanes on Thursday, 31 October, at 7:00pm AEDT on 7mate and 7plus.
