The Block Recap: Ricky and Haydn win big, but not all teams handled the victory aftermath well.
In a special Thursday night edition of The Block (Episode 35), airing on Channel 9 and 9Now, the much-anticipated Domain Listings and Buyers jury results were revealed, with Ricky and Haydn narrowly clinching the win.
The pair secured victory by just one percentage point over Kristian and Mimi, taking home a prize of $50,000. This windfall brings much-needed relief to their budget as they prepare for the challenging landscape week ahead.
In contrast, Maddy and Charlotte were left disappointed, receiving just 8 per cent of the vote, a result that clearly dampened their spirits.
Following the intense competition, a night of celebration ensued, but it left several teams struggling the next morning. Ricky and Haydn, along with Mimi, Courtney, Grant, and Brad, failed to attend the compulsory 7am pre-start meeting with the site foreman. Their absence was noticeable, and when Ricky and Haydn’s builder, Duncan, arrived, the duo had yet to wake up. To add to the scene, an unexpected guest was found sleeping on their couch.
During the walkaround with Scott and Shelley, several contestants appeared fatigued after the previous night’s festivities. Ricky and Haydn eventually roused themselves, only to face further challenges. Another local landscaper had pulled out of the project, amid continuing rumours that The Block was behind on payments to tradespeople.
Meanwhile, emotions ran high for Kristian, whose difficult week showed no signs of easing. He and Mimi had been tasked with delivering two spaces – a downstairs rumpus room and an upstairs guest bedroom – but the pressure proved too much. They made the tough decision to focus solely on the rumpus room, abandoning plans for the upstairs space.
In a poignant moment, Kristian broke down in front of Foreman Dan, who offered understanding and support, acknowledging the emotional rollercoaster of the competition.
