Stay informed with Sky News’ in-depth Queensland Election 2024 coverage. Follow the campaign trail and expert commentary from political leaders.
Sky News Australia is set to provide extensive live coverage of the Queensland Election, with its team of award-winning political journalists and commentators closely following the campaigns of Premier Steven Miles and Opposition Leader David Crisafulli.
As the state heads toward the October 26 election, the network will keep viewers updated on the policy announcements, campaign highlights, and key moments that could shape the result.
The coverage will span the entire state, from Cairns to Caloundra, and Townsville to Toowoomba, capturing every major development across the next four weeks. Viewers can expect detailed reporting on the issues that matter most to Queenslanders, including cost-of-living pressures, education, healthcare, and the lead-up to the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
Joining Sky News’ expert election team is former Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, who will contribute her extensive knowledge of Queensland politics. Palaszczuk, who served as Premier from 2015 to 2023, is recognised as Australia’s longest-serving female Premier, having won three consecutive state elections.
In a statement, Annastacia Palaszczuk said:
“I will be bringing my expertise, but also my intuition on what Queenslanders are thinking to the Sky News coverage of the Queensland Election. Some of the biggest issues facing Queensland will be the cost-of-living pressures on families, making sure that our education system is robust, building new hospitals that service our regional communities, and having a plan that both parties stick to and deliver a world class Olympics in 2032.”
Also featuring in Sky News’ lineup is former Premier and Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Campbell Newman, offering his insights on the election night broadcast. Newman has signalled that he will be providing candid analysis of all the political parties involved in the election.
Campbell Newman stated:
“On election night, I’ll be taking a very critical view of the Labor Party, the Liberal National Party, the Greens, Katter’s Australian Party, the whole lot of them, and I’ll be calling it, as I see it, without fear or favour.”
In addition to its expert commentary, Sky News’ team of reporters—Harry Clarke, Lauren Forbes, Cameron Reddin, and Fiona Willan—will be on the ground, covering the candidates’ campaigns as they travel the state to win over voters.
The coverage will be anchored by a series of special events in the lead-up to the election. From Monday October 21 to Friday October 25, Peter Stefanovic will host First Edition live from various locations across Queensland. On Tuesday October 22, Premier Miles and Opposition Leader Crisafulli will go head-to-head at the Sky News/Courier Mail People’s Forum, moderated by Sky News Chief News Anchor Kieran Gilbert. This event will give 100 undecided voters, chosen by YouGov, the chance to question the leaders directly about their vision for Queensland.
On Wednesday October 23, Paul Murray will bring his popular program Paul Murray Live to the streets of Brisbane, just days before voters head to the polls.
On election night itself, Saturday October 26, Sky News will deliver its signature live coverage, starting from 5:00pm AEST. Queensland Decides: Election Night LIVE will feature a high-profile panel including Kieran Gilbert, Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell, Peta Credlin, Annastacia Palaszczuk, Campbell Newman, former federal Cabinet Minister Graham Richardson, and Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister Patrick Gorman. They will be joined by LNP Senator for Queensland James McGrath and Sky News’ Chief Election Analyst Tom Connell, ensuring comprehensive analysis and real-time updates.
Throughout the campaign, Sky News Australia’s full coverage will be available online at SkyNews.com.au, with live updates, seat-by-seat data, and exclusive news breaking as it happens.
