Stan’s new original series Thou Shalt Not Steal drops October 17. Follow Robyn’s gripping journey across the outback in this unmissable Aussie drama.
Stan has released the official trailer for its upcoming original series, Thou Shalt Not Steal, set to premiere on October 17, exclusively on the streaming platform. The show is the latest addition to Stan’s growing catalogue of original productions.
The series, which has already made a strong impression following its world premiere at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), is set in the 1980s and tells the story of Robyn (played by Sherry-Lee Watson), a young Aboriginal girl on a quest to uncover a long-buried family secret. Fleeing from juvenile detention, Robyn is joined by awkward teen Gidge (Will McDonald), and together they embark on a dangerous journey across the Australian outback.
Directed by Dylan River (Mystery Road: Origin, Robbie Hood), who also co-created the series with Tanith Glynn-Maloney (Windcatcher, Robbie Hood), Thou Shalt Not Steal has drawn attention for its distinct blend of road adventure and dramatic storytelling. The show explores themes of identity, survival, and personal growth as Robyn and Gidge navigate not only the harsh physical landscape but also the emotional challenges of their circumstances.
The show’s impressive cast includes Noah Taylor (Peaky Blinders, Game of Thrones) as Robert, Gidge’s overbearing father, and Miranda Otto (The Clearing, Stan Original Film The Portable Door) as Maxine, a sex trafficker pursuing the pair after Robyn steals her taxi. Supporting roles are filled by notable actors including Natasha Wanganeen, Warren H. Williams, William McKenna, and Darren Gilshenan.
The series will also be screened at SXSW Sydney on October 15, adding to its growing list of prestigious festival appearances. The creative team behind Thou Shalt Not Steal is led by award-winning Ludo Studio, known for the global hit Bluey. Charlie Aspinwall, Daley Pearson, and Sophie Miller serve as executive producers, alongside Stan’s Cailah Scobie and Donna Chang. The production was supported by Screen Australia, with additional backing from the South Australian Film Corporation, Screen Territory, and Screen Queensland.
Thou Shalt Not Steal is distributed internationally by DCD Rights and promises to be a unique addition to Australia’s television landscape with its mix of suspense, social commentary, and vibrant characters.
