Channel 7’s ‘Unstoppable’ news promo debuts across Australia, set to John Farnham’s ‘Age Of Reason,’ but faces a quick re-edit due to a mistake.

Channel 7 has unveiled the latest phase in the evolution of its national news coverage, marked by the release of a new branding campaign. The centrepiece of this effort is a 90-second promotional video that premiered across the country at the conclusion of the 6pm bulletins last night.

Set to John Farnham‘s iconic track ‘Age Of Reason’, the promo serves as a retrospective, showcasing 7News‘ coverage of significant global events over the past five decades. The campaign underscores the network’s dedication to keeping pace with the relentless news cycle.

News anchors in each state introduced the promo to viewers, emphasising the continuous nature of news reporting. “The news cycle never stops, and nor do our hard-working newsrooms,” they noted, adding that the theme ‘Unstoppable’ aptly captures the spirit of their ongoing efforts.

However, the new promo has already attracted some criticism, with some viewers quickly identifying an innocent mistake in one of the featured historical references. The video mistakenly stated that Madeleine McCann went missing in 2003, whereas the correct year is 2007.

  1. It’s an obituary…. It died the day Humphries showed up to do the closing credits on that Friday night.

  2. A truly awful promo made worse by the fact they baked into the bulletin and forced their newsreaders to intro it.

  3. I was confused what it was about. Thought it might have been a new app or new streaming channel. Had no idea! They need to be clearer I think.

  4. This is so insensitive! I cannot believe anyone at Channel 7 could have thought this was appropriate… and introduced either a smiling presenter. A Jewish woman being abducted, a reminder of people stabbed to death in a shopping centre this year, the Lindt cafe where a pregnant woman and others were killed. Disgusting promo Channel 7. You should be ashamed. I will NOT be watching your news again.

  5. Age of Reason….not exactly the phrase i’d use to describe Seven’s behaviour in recent years, particularly in their news division.

  6. We all want to know who the fantastic singer is. For goodness sake give them some recognition!

  7. They say John Farnhams Age of Reason, but that’s definitely not John Farnhams version. I wish that promoted who sang it!
