The Australian spin-off of the game show is reportedly heading to Channel 9, as first reported by TV Blackbox.

As further reported by this site, the network is potentially looking at the series as a replacement for the Hamish Blake hosted Lego Masters Australia which recently wrapped its sixth season.

The Floor is described as: a trivia battle in which 81 contestants stand on 81 squares on a massive game show floor, competing for a whopping grand prize.

The casting notice posted online reads:

“CALLING AUSSIES LIVING OR PLANNING A HOLIDAY IN THE UK, IRELAND OR EUROPE.

Do you want to take part of the world’s hottest new game show?

To apply, just answer a quick few questions and upload a photo.  It’s that easy!”

The series is produced by Eureka, an Australian founded production company with headquarters in Los Angeles, who also produce series such as Netflix’s reboot of The Mole, 10’s Amazing Race, and Seven’s Australian Idol and Farmer Wants a Wife.

The production company also produces the US version which is based on a Dutch format of the same name, and is hosted by Actor Rob Lowe which airs on FOX. The series was renewed for a second and third season earlier this year.

The commissioning of the format down under follows a recent trend of local versions filming off the back of international versions using expats living abroad, in an attempt to save on costs by using existing infrastructure.

Recent examples include Nine’s Jeopardy! Australia hosted by Stephen Fry, as well as 10’s reboot of Wheel of Fortune Australia hosted by talk show host Graham Norton (due to premiere later this year), with both shows hosted by the hosts of the UK versions respectively.

  1. This not a comment on the content of the program.

If we copy shows from overseas it will imply that the background and sets will be identical.

Why in the last 20 years have the backgrounds and sets dark lighting.

In the 70s, 80s and 90s the background and sets were bright. Blankety Blanks, Sale of the Century, Wheel of Fortune, Celebrity Squares to name a few had brightly lit sets.

Today the sets, like those in the top photograph are dark.

What ever happened to bright sets, clever use of lighting and cycloramas.

It is a first world problem, but regular viewing conditions the viewer to feel gloomy and dark.

    Thanks
