The jungle drums are beating once again in TV land….
When Tracy Grimshaw confirmed her retirement plans from A Current Affair, it was always going to spark a heated battle as to who would land the coveted primetime gig.
While many potential candidates have been suggested over the past two months, the one name that keeps being whispered in the ear of TV Blackbox is current Today show host Ally Langdon.
While Channel 9 would be loathed to split up the successful chemistry between Langdon and Karl Stefanovic on Today, primetime gigs don’t become available every day and it would be entirely understandable if the mother of two young children was seeking to work more manageable working hours.
While TV Blackbox understands no firm decision has been made yet regarding ACA in 2023, we do hear network insiders have already cast an eye towards who could join Stefanovic behind the Today desk in 2023.
Current 60 Minutes reporter Sarah Abo is a hot contender for the role and has spent several stints in the Today hosting chair throughout 2022. But also under consideration is rising network star Amelia Adams.
Having spent the last four years working as a highly respected foreign correspondent across Europe and the US, some within Nine believe the time is right for Adams to receive a significant boost in profile.
Back in August, Nine announced Adams would be making the move to take on a permanent role on 60 Minutes, however TV Blackbox understands the network is now reconsidering if Adams would be better placed on Today.
Interesting times indeed….
