As the ABC turns 90 the Sky News Australia commentator asks questions only he can answer.
As one of the country’s most revered and important cultural institutions marks its 90th anniversary, Sky News will explore the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s role in modern Australia with a new one-hour investigation Your ABC Exposed, premiering on Tuesday July 26 at 8pm AEST.
Sky News Australia host and Associate Editor at The Australian, Chris Kenny will examine the origin, purpose and performance of the national broadcaster, its contribution to public debate and whether this taxpayer-funded service enhances national unity or division. The ABC says it is “Your ABC” but who is actually in charge of this billion-dollars-a-year broadcasting behemoth?

“As it celebrates 90 years, it is time to ask whether the ABC is still fit for purpose. Taxpayers foot the bill to run the nation’s largest broadcaster every year but is it effectively serving mainstream Australians? This documentary asks whether the public broadcaster unites the country, as it is supposed to, or instead often divides us.”
Your ABC Exposed speaks to current and former ABC employees including ABC Managing Director David Anderson, former ABC current affairs presenter and staff-elected ABC Board Director Quentin Dempster, former ABC Managing Director Jonathan Shier, and former ABC board member and columnist at The Australian Janet Albrechtsen.
The one-hour special will also feature interviews with key political figures including Communications Minister Michelle Rowland, Shadow Minister for Communications Sarah Henderson and former Minister for Communications and the Arts Richard Alston.
Chris Kenny is a journalist and commentator who has been reporting on politics and national affairs for more than three decades. His first television role was with the ABC’s 7.30 Report in Adelaide, he has worked in print, radio and television nationally and has been a guest commentator a couple of times on the ABC’s television programs, Insiders and Q&A.
A former chief of staff to then foreign minister Alexander Downer and then opposition leader Malcolm Turnbull, Kenny joined Sky News in 2015 and hosted the weekly Kenny on Media and now The Kenny Report weeknights at 5pm AEST.
