Channel 10 is launching a new breakfast show… and TV Blackbox has the exclusive details
Network 10 staff were informed today a new 30-minute breakfast show would be running from 8am – 8.30am each weekday.
The news-based program will replace the first half-hour of Studio 10 which extended its original start time from 8.30am to 8am in 2020 and start on June 27.
Despite its name, this is not a traditional breakfast show in the same vein as Sunrise, Today or News Breakfast, but will be a straight 30-minute news bulletin.
Lachlan Kennedy will host from the Sydney Studio Monday to Wednesday and Natasha Exelby will host from Melbourne on Thursday and Fridays.
Exelby was an original co-host of 10’s failed Wake Up program back in 2013.
The network says there will be no staff losses nor will there be any extra workload for journalists.
But also, no extra staff will be employed. The presentation of the bulletin will be done using the existing Studio 10 crew.
Rehearsals are set to start next week with the bulletin consisting of live crosses, voiceovers, one expert interviews, sport and colour stories from the previous day’s 5pm “where appropriate”, and a short weather segment.
A network 10 spokesperson told TVBB:
“10 News First: Breakfast expands and strengthens 10’s commitment to News across the day. The addition of a morning news bulletin offers viewers a concise, 30-minute news update at the start of their day, and extends 10’s daily news offering. From 10 News First: Breakfast at 8am, through to 10 News First at 5pm, and all the news updates in between, 10 has you covered with the latest breaking news and up to date reports on local, national and international stories.”
my Suggestion to Channel 10 is simple put resources to the regions for Local News & also drop the word first from there news title
Half an hour! big deal – not! – i don’t watch morning tele shows but i do catch sbs news of a morning – the only decent news on the tv – Exelby good choice.
Hullo,
The possesive ‘its’ does not have an apostrophe. Shame !
Hi Hans – all fixed, with thanks!
Has Channel 10 remembered shows that they tried in 2012? Look at Breakfast in 2012. They’ve tried Breakfast and sadly it failed so badly in the ratings. After they axed The Circle, Breakfast never recovered in the ratings and that was why Ten axed this show. Then nearly 12 months later, they’ve tried a new breakfast show, Wake Up. Wake Up simply lacked a lot of chemistry and unfortunately, it never recovered. I don’t watch a lot of morning shows on Ten anymore.
