This week’s 60 Minutes episode has seen a last-minute shake up in stories.
Nine’s 60 Minutes program has been forced to delay a story originally planned to broadcast on Sunday night.
In what was marketed as a major investigation between the show and Nine’s papers The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, award-winning reporter Adele Ferguson was set to expose “horrific” evidence about the cosmetic surgery industry.
According to the show’s original release it would, “surely lead to demands for inquiries and much greater oversight and regulation of the industry in question”.
But a court order has seen the story taken off schedule and replaced with two new stories.
As reported in The Sydney Morning Herald, a New South Wales Supreme Court issued an order requiring Nine to hand over copies of both the 60 Minutes and Herald & Age investigations before the content is published or completed.
Double Bay cosmetic surgeon Joseph Ajaka successfully obtained the court order on Friday night, forcing all media parties to hand over draft copies of the investigation.
Nine had the orders stayed pending an appeal, and agreed not to publish the material before that occurred.
The executive editor of the Herald and Age, Tory Maguire, said in a statement:
“We are alarmed that this decision curbs our ability to conduct investigative journalism in the public interest.
“We are determined to appeal this decision both so this important story can be published and broadcast, and to prevent any precedent that threatens freedom of the press.”
