A big launch for Seven pays off…but can it hold the audience when it goes head to head and not 30 minutes early?

Seven did everything they could to get the premiere of The Voice Australia (843,000) in front of eyeballs, including running the first five minutes in simulcast on 7mate and 7flix. It paid off with a big first episode landing first in primetime (acknowledging it started at 7pm and didn’t go properly head-to-head with its competitors – that’s tomorrow night). After that, they basically gave up on viewers and offered a repeat of MOVIE: The Devil Wears Prada (166,000 BNE/SYD/PER) or served Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts (152,000 MEL/ADL) to the markets that didn’t get it last night (oh Mr Hart, what a programming mess!).
Seven first in both primary (25.5%) and network (34%) rankings.

A Current Affair (595,000) didn’t perform as well as it usually does for Nine (though still strong), in part for Seven’s gazumping premiere. When Lego Masters Australia (672,000) did manage to premiere it was a bit of a way off, though not too far. HBO Max series Full Bloom (135,000) followed, and then the night split based on AFL/NRL code by capital: 100% Footy (30,000 BNE/SYD) or Footy Classified (67,000 MEL/ADL/PER).
Nine second in both primary (20.7%) and network (28.7%) rankings.

The Project (246,000 6:30pm; 347,000 7pm) enjoyed a slight boost from the premiere of MasterChef Australia (545,000), which held its own though struggled to compete with Seven and Nine’s offerings…though even road-blocking the entire premiere episode didn’t help enough. The season finale of Would I Lie To You? Australia (242,000)
ends with more of a whimper than a bang – though it was the best in the later night. Lano and Woodley in Lano and Woodley (66,000) kept the comedy theme running into the late night.
10 third in both primary (13.8%) and network (17.2%) rankings.

Monday night on the ABC was a little light on, where 7:30 (374,000) was as good as it got, followed by a repeat Anh’s Brush With Fame (190,000) and then into a new special Attenborough and the Mammoth Graveyard (233,000). A repeat of Surviving Extinction (130,000) and Invictus Games Highlights (42,000) filled out the later and late night.
ABC fourth in both primary (8.5%) and network (12.7%) rankings.

SBS deliver a solid Monday: Britain By Beach (151,000), Secrets of the Tower of London (104,000), and a repeat of 24 Hours in Emergency (96,000).
SBS fifth in both primary (4.2%) and network (7.5%) rankings.
