While the parents move into a house together, the series sees adult-aged kids pull the strings behind the scenes.

A brand new reality dating format designed for single parents is making its way to Australia, with Nine set to broadcast the series.

My Mum, Your Dad, from the executive producers of Love Island and Parks and Recreation, sees a group of single parents move into a house together as their university-aged kids try to pull strings from behind the scenes and get their parents a second chance at love.

ITV Studios looks to be the production company behind the new series, which makes sense given they already produce a local version of Love Island.

But unlike that show which is usually full of severely attractive, child-less, 20-30 year-olds, My Mum, Your Dad will bring together more middle aged adults, those with kids who hope their parents can just be happy.

In the US’ HBO Max original series, parents are unaware just how involved their offspring are with the format, although it’s unlikely this will hold up as well in our Australian version, given the format’s biggest secret is already out there.

The show even had a COVID scare, where one of its participants had to be pulled out from the house abruptly due to being exposed to someone who had COVID.

Nine has had previous success with shows involving parents (albeit with a completely different concept to it) as Parental Guidance proved popular with viewers last year, and auditions for a second season have begun.

Details surrounding Nine’s version of My Mum, Your Dad, including the expected host and airdate, are currently unknown, although sources are suggesting that this may be a weekly show, rather than a multi night production and will air Q4.

Other dating formats Nine has on the broadcast schedule in 2022 include Beauty and the Geek, and the currently airing Married at First Sight. Nine is yet to renew Love Island Australia.

A trailer for the US production currently streaming on their HBO Max platform is below.

Nine were approached for comment prior to publication but did not respond.

UPDATE – Nine have since told TV Blackbox they will not screen the American version of the series, but gave no specific comment regarding the Australian version of the series.

UPDATE 2 – I am standing by the story that Nine has picked up the rights to the Australian version and will air this later in the year.
