The ITV Studios production offers a life-changing prize to whoever outlasts the ultimate survival challenge of a lifetime.

During SBS’s Upfronts presentation this morning, it was announced an Australian version of Alone was commissioned, with casting now open to anyone willing to brave the elements and fight to stay alive on their own terms.

As the most successful factual franchise of SBS On Demand, the network has secured the exclusive rights to commission a local version of Alone.

Alone Australia, as it will be known, is an adventure reality game show follows a cast of individual self-reliance experts as they brave the elements and fight to stay alive on their own terms, with nothing but what they carry in on their backs.

Their mission; to live alone in the wild, for as long as they can, documenting their journey every step of the way.

With the exception of medical check-ins, the participants are isolated from each other and all other humans. They may choose to “tap out” at any time, but will lose the competition by doing so.

Whoever lasts the longest will win a life-changing prize (which is US$500,000 in the American version of the program).

ITV Studios’ casting call asks:

Are you a TRUE survivor in the practical sense of the word?

Is self-reliance a way of life for you?

Do you consider yourself a skilled survivalist?

Do you have the stamina to sustain yourself for weeks on end, in a harsh environment with no contact from the outside world?

It adds:

No matter whether you label yourself an adventurist, bush crafter, expert hunter, fisher, forager, self-reliance expert, prepper, or survivalist.

No matter which traditions your knowledge, methods and skills derive from.

If you have what it takes to keep yourself alive, with only basic tools and equipment AND if you’re ready to put yourself to the test in the SURVIVAL CHALLENGE OF A LIFETIME…

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

Applications are open to anyone aged over 18, and the casting team is looking to represent Australia’s population, and are interested in applications from people who identify as culturally and linguistically diverse, First Nations, people with disability, LGBTIQ+, women and other lived experiences which are traditionally under-represented on screen.

Alone Australia is expected to begin airing its first season in 2023. You can apply here.
