The fill-in weather presenter has impressed executives over summer
There’s a saying in TV – never take holidays!
That old adage relates to the idea that your fill-in might impress those in charge and you might not have a job to return to.
This summer the standout performer has easily been Scherri-Lee Biggs, who has been filling in as the weather presenter on Nine’s Today show.
So popular has Scherri-Lee proven to be, the former Miss Universe Australia has made headlines over the non-ratings period for her onscreen antics and personal life.
And while regular weather presenter Tim Davies has nothing to worry about (he is well-liked by executives), TV Blackbox can reveal Nine’s big bosses are currently looking at other roles based in Sydney for Scherri-Lee.
Sources say the line-up of the Today show will not change, but they also don’t want to lose the personable performer.
The Today show is keen to overtake arch rival Sunrise in 2022 after a very successful 2021. In fact, the show claimed wins on the East Coast and in some markets, but Sunrise retained the ratings crown nationally.
But there’s no doubt Nine wants to strengthen its offerings and Scherri-Lee is seen as a future star who connects with viewers.
While there was an expectation she would return to Perth to continue presenting weather for Nine News, those plans appear to be in doubt as conversations continue with management.
Whatever new role she takes up in Sydney, you can expect to see more of Scherri-Lee on our screens as she becomes the permanent fill-in weather presenter for the weekday edition of Today… in addition to a new role.
