After 25 years and over 6000 episodes as an afternoon staple on 10, new Judge Judy episodes will be no longer with the series coming to an end.
News of the popular reality courtroom series Judge Judy, which made judge Judith Sheindlin a household name around the world, wrapping up with its 25th season surfaced in early 2020, but it wasn’t until July 2021 that the final episode premiered in the U.S.
Now, with the final season currently airing on 10 in its usual 3:00pm timeslot, Monday, December 13 will see Channel 10 screen the 200th and final episode of the final season – so I guess the rulings really are final this time.
While the episode will be added to 10play for catch-up viewing, it will only stay on the platform for a week before Judge Judy hits the reruns phase on 10, with any episode screened after Monday dropping the ‘new’ and becoming ‘repeat’.
Love her or loathe her, Judge Judy has been a constant to 10’s programming and a frequent ratings winner after 25 years and over 6000 episodes. Losing the series will be a big upset for the network, although with ViacomCBS owning both 10 and Judge Judy, we shouldn’t expect to see the series leave 10 as a whole anytime soon.
After premiering in 1996, Judge Judy came to an end when Sheindlin announced on The Ellen Degeneres Show that it would end after 25 years and 25 seasons. Reportedly a shock to CBS, Sheindlin instead began to shop around a new series titled Judy Justice.
The new spin-off series was picked up by Amazon, launching on their streaming service iMDb TV in November, with 120 episodes ordered and Sheindlin contracted to two seasons of Judy Justice.
iMDb TV however is not available in Australia, with a spokesperson telling TV Blackbox:
“Unfortunately, at this time IMDb TV is not available in Australia. We are currently only available in the US and UK.”
Until iMDb TV launches in Australia, or Judy Justice gets picked up somewhere else, Australian Judy lovers will have to settle for the classic reruns on 10 and some of the best moments you find on a 2:00am can’t-sleep YouTube scroll:
