It’s fair to say it’s been a massive year for news that has left many of us eagerly anticipating our summer holidays.
And apparently this includes Leigh Sales and the team at the 7:30 program, with confirmation the program will once again be going off-air for an extended period over summer.
TV Blackbox has confirmed the ABC’s flagship current affairs program will be off-air from December 16 to January 3. In its place the network will be airing repeat episodes of factual series, Outback Riggers.
While the extended break no doubt provides the ABC a chance to balance its tricky budgets and allows the extremely hard-working production team a chance to recharge their batteries, the question does need to be asked if it’s appropriate for such an important program in the ABC’s line-up to go missing at such a busy time of the year.
A spokesperson for the broadcaster described the break as the “usual summer break” and “comparable with other years.”
Let’s just hope there isn’t any significant news stories this Christmas period. It’s not like Australia is prone to natural disasters such as Bushfires…
