There may only be three finalists in this category but it’ll be stiff competition between them for the ultimate TV Boxie.
It’s a free-to-air war with Seven, Nine and 10 each holding one nomination in the Most Popular Morning Show category.
Yesterday we looked at Breakfast, tomorrow we’ll go into News, but today it’s all about the mid-morning content and which one is most deserving of receiving the TV Boxie on November 28.
MOST POPULAR MORNING SHOW FINALISTS
THE MORNING SHOW (Seven)
Who better to start the Morning Show category than The Morning Show itself? When Sunrise concludes at 9:00am, viewers turn to Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies for infotainment, celebrity interviews and live music performances.
The pair have hosted the program since it began in 2007, with Angela Cox and Sally Bowrey presenting news during the week.
On the weekends, highlights from the week before are shown, keeping The Morning Show a popular staple for Seven everyday of the week.
Unlike the other two finalists, The Morning Show is the only morning program that has featured the same hosting lineup since the beginning, which could tip the scales in their favour at the TV Boxies for having such a familiar duo in front of the camera.
TODAY EXTRA (Nine)
Beginning in 2012 simply as Mornings, the program was rebranded as Today Extra in 2016, connecting it to its preceding breakfast broadcast, Today.
After some hosting lineup changes in recent years, but in 2020 a solid hosting duo of David Campbell and Sylvia Jeffreys (although David and Belinda Russell on Friday) was locked in for Today Extra. Davina Smith presents the news.
Much like the former nominee, Today Extra highlights from the week are shown on the weekend, following the live airing of Weekend Today.
Today Extra puts up a formidable challenge against its free-to-air counterparts, and will be a strong contender in this category at the TV Boxies.
STUDIO 10 (10)
Originally a panel show that originated in 2013, Studio 10 debuted a new format in 2020 to rival its aforementioned competitors, with Sarah Harris and Tristan MacManus co-hosting the program.
Narelda Jacobs presents news and Angela Bishop presents entertainment for the show.
Before the change last year, some of TV’s most recognisable faces such as Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Denise Drysdale, Joe Hildebrand and Natarsha Belling featured as panelists/presenters on the program.
With Studio 10’s relatively new format not yet really tested when it comes to awards, perhaps viewers are finding the revamp a welcome change and will reward them with the TV Boxie for Most Popular Morning Show.
So with only a 33.33% chance for either of these finalists to take out the award, who’s got your pick for the Most Popular Morning Show TV Boxie? Vote in all of the eligible categories below!
