The critically acclaimed, vividly told docuseries 100 FOOT WAVE, chronicling big-wave surf legend Garrett McNamara’s decade-long search to find and surf the biggest wave in the world, premieres on Thursday, December 2 at 7.30pm AEDT, available to watch On Demand on FOXTEL.

Directed and executive produced by award-winning filmmaker Chris Smith, who also executive produced the blockbuster docuseries Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem And Madness and directed the Emmy-nominated documentary Fyre: The Greatest Party that Never Happened; and executive produced by Emmy winner Joe Lewis (Fleabag, Transparent), the six-episode documentary series intimately captures the ten year odyssey of surfing pioneer McNamara, who, after visiting Nazare’, Portugal in the hopes of conquering a 100-foot wave, pushed the sport to ever-greater heights and alongside locals helped transform the small fishing village into the world’s preeminent big-wave surfing destination.

Over the course of the series, 100 FOOT WAVE interweaves the transformative story of the seaside village with the ongoing search for the tallest wave on the planet by McNamara, his wife Nicole, CJ Macias, Andrew “Cotty” Cotton, Justine Dupont and several big-wave surfers from around the globe, as they push themselves through life-altering injuries and tantalizing near-misses in their collective pursuit of the inconceivable.

Spanning four continents, it is the inspirational story of a group of people on a quest to achieve new heights, and a town and a sport that were forever changed by one seemingly impossible dream.

100 FOOT WAVE is directed and executive produced by Chris Smith; executive produced by Joe Lewis, and Topic Studios’ Maria Zuckerman, Ryan Heller and Michael Bloom, for HBO. It is exclusive in Australia to the FOXTEL Group.

The docuseries has been renewed for a second season, which will continue to follow Garrett and Nicole McNamara and others profiled in the first season, as they get closer to making their dream a reality, while introducing new big wave surfers who join the communal pursuit to conquer a 100-foot wave in Nazaré.

The documentary joins Foxtel’s new premiere documentary destination FOX DOCOS, which launched in September and features an unrivalled library of award-winning documentary content from around the world.

100 FOOT WAVE premieres on Thursday, December 2 at 7.30pm AEDT, available to watch On Demand on FOXTEL and on FOX DOCOS.
