Preppers is an offbeat and hilarious take on the possible end of the world as we know it.
This new comedy series from ABC takes a decent dig at dooms day preppers. It hints at a mystery yet to unfold. It connects us to our indigenous history. At the same time, it doesn’t once mention the all-consuming and confounding pandemic.
This is refreshing! The humour is dark, yet on point. After devouring Episode One I look forward to the possible hilarious situations that the relatable and well -developed characters take us.
The main cast includes Nakkiah Lui, an outstanding Aboriginal actor as the lead, and Meyne Wyatt, the Best Newcomer at the 2011 Sydney Theatre Awards.
They both provide solid performances. Personally, I really enjoyed seeing Uncle Jack Charles, after seeing his episode on Who Do You Think You Are? (ABC, Season 12, episode 5) I admire and respect all his work and was overjoyed to see him stand out in this hilarious show.
The character of Fig in the first Episode, played by Luke Arnold, is an absolute delight and the golden nuggets of actors who are yet to appear, I will not spoil for you. Let’s just say at the half-way point of the first episode you will say “what the?” and enjoy the ride of a gold winning Logie actor providing an unexpected performance.
With performances by Ursula Yoich, Chum Ehelepola, Aaron McGrath and Eryn Jean Norvill this show is sure to have you hooked and ready watch all the way to the finale of Episode 6.
