The new Australian series will screen for the ABC in 2022.
ABC and Screen Australia are delighted to announce production is underway in Sydney on a new short form animated series Ginger & the Vegesaurs.
Based on the concept created by Gary Eck and Nick O’Sullivan, and co-developed by the team at Cheeky Little, preschoolers will fall in love with the adorable and delicious new characters and entertaining storylines.
The 20 x 5 minute series will immerse young children in a comic and colourful alternative prehistory dominated by the juiciest and crunchiest vegetable creatures ever to rule the planet – the mighty Vegesaurs – with lead characters Ginger, a young Tricarrotops and her baby Pea-Rex buddies Minty, Wasabi and Split driving the stories.
The much-anticipated series deploys an innovative Unreal led production pipeline, growing Cheeky Little’s in-house capacity to handle asset creation, lighting and rendering in-engine, with animation being handled by Infinite Frameworks.
Head of ABC Children’s Production, Libbie Doherty said:
“Ginger the Tricarrotops, (yes you read that right) and her trusty Vegesaur gang will take the ABC Kids audience on a hilarious and wild ride through the crunchiest period of natural history. Congratulations to Gary, Nick and the Cheeky Little Team for developing a series that kids will immediately fall in love with and quite possibly make them hungry too – in a good way!”
