Cricket Australia has confirmed all 59 matches of the upcoming WBBL matches will be televised live on Foxtel and Kayo for the first time.

In recent years, the League has strengthened its position as Australia’s fourth most-watched sporting League on the back of its tentpole simulcast weekends shown on Seven and Foxtel.

The success of those weekends and the stronghold in the WBBL’s October and November window, has made the possibility of televising all weekend and weekday matches a reality.

In WBBL|01, just 10 matches were televised, followed by 12 in WBBL|02 and WBBL|03, 23 in WBBL|04 and WBBL|05 and 36 last season.

This season, Seven will show 24 WBBL|07 matches live, with all 59 matches on Foxtel and Kayo, in addition to coverage on ABC Radio and cricket.com.au.

Such a strong broadcast footprint reinforces the ambition of the League and clubs to continue growing the competition despite the challenges of the pandemic.

The WBBL|07 regular season will be played at venues in Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia. This has been made possible by the dedication of our clubs, players, broadcasters, partners, governments and venues to ensuring the League remains the world’s best cricket competition for women.

Changes to the WBBL|07 schedule have been made in response to state border restrictions, public health conditions and their related impacts. The changes allow the League and clubs to continue to prioritise the health and safety of fans, the wider community, players, match officials and staff.

The revised details of matches 21-56 of the regular season, following the recent announcement of a revised schedule for the first 20 matches of the campaign in Tasmania.

Venues for the WBBL|07 Finals Series are yet to be confirmed. Matches are scheduled for November 24, 25 and 27.

Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s General Manager of Big Bash Leagues, said:

“The Weber WBBL is Australia’s highest rating sporting league for women and the world’s best cricket league for women. We owe it to our players and loyal fans to deliver a full schedule, and today’s announcement further strengthens this.

“Once again this season we need to remain nimble and agile to deliver a full Weber WBBL season. We are grateful to our Clubs, broadcast partners, players, commercial partners, venues and governments for their cooperation, understanding and flexibility as we strive to deliver another fantastic season.

“At the same time, to also announce a landmark broadcast footprint is amazing. Fans can now watch every Weber WBBL|07 game on TV, ensuring that our passionate supporters will have access to world-class cricket despite the challenges of the pandemic. The support of Seven and Foxtel to make this happen further demonstrates their commitment to the Weber WBBL and the women’s game.

“We understand that this revised schedule means our fans in New South Wales and Victoria won’t be able to attend Weber WBBL|07 matches in their own backyard. We are thinking of all our fans in those states as they continue navigating the challenges of lockdowns and hope they enjoy tuning into the broadcast on Seven, Foxtel, Kayo, ABC Radio or cricket.com.au.”

  1. Absolutely disgusting that most wbbl are on foxtel. Not everyone has the money to spend/ waste on pay tv. Many pensioners and low income families cant watch the cricket when its not on free to air tv. Shame shame shame

    • Hi Leah – I agree this is a real shame, and one Seven as the cricket partner who didn’t want to show it on free-to-air TV should be taken to task on.

  2. i could not agree more than with the comments above not all us pensioners can afford pay tv and we live out in the country where as always reception is bad and 7 is always playing up on and off and all the other stations are good !!!!!!
