What’s in a name? Don’t be surprised by the ABC’s brand conventions

Pop quiz: What’s the correct name of the ABC’s streaming service?

If you answered “C”, congratulations (we also would have accepted “E”).

While we love media coverage about our on-demand content, many articles refer to ABC iview in curious ways – including “ABC iView”, “ABC Iview” or “iview” only. There’s similar inconsistency in references to ABC listen (note the lower cap “l”), triple j (lower cap “t”) and ABC NEWS (all upper case).

This is not simply an exercise for pedants. Despite what Shakespeare said (“a rose by any other name…”), the ABC’s brands and products help our audiences know what’s what in an increasingly crowded streaming space.

We’re proud to say that ABC iview has been the nation’s No 1 broadcaster video-on-demand service for 15 weeks of this year to date. Nailing its name is the next step in ensuring ABC iview is on the tip of the tongue for every viewer. Here’s a handy guide if you happen to refer to ABC iview or some of our other popular brand names, verbally or in writing. Many thanks in advance.

What else is new on ABC iview? We’re glad you asked.
