Some of the nation’s biggest thoroughbred stars will be chasing Group 1 glory this Saturday on the Seven Network, with race fans set to enjoy spectacular Spring Racing from George Main Stakes Day at Randwick and MRC Foundation Race Day at Caulfield.

Saturday’s live and free action is highlighted by two coveted Group 1 races: the George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick and Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

Seven’s coverage begins at 12.00pm AEST on Channel 7, 7two and 7plus and will again be led by Australia’s most respected sport broadcaster, Bruce McAvaney. Racing’s #1 commentary team will also include national racing icon Michelle Payne, the only female jockey to have won the Melbourne Cup, along with fan favourites Jason Richardson and Katelyn Mallyon.

Saturday is the opening day of Sydney’s glittering Everest Carnival and the George Main Stakes – a race the legendary Winx won three years in a row – should ensure it gets off to a blistering start.

Eight-time Group 1 champion Verry Elleegant and last year’s winner Kolding will be out to give master trainer Chris Waller a remarkable eighth win in the illustrious weight-for-age race. However, George Ryder Stakes winner Think It Over and Doncaster Mile victor Cascadian are also proven Group 1 winners and will be extremely tough to beat.

At Caulfield, Probabeel will be striving to become the first mare to win the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes in more than a decade. But the triple Group 1 victor faces stiff opposition from last year’s winner Behemoth and Beau Rossa, who both impressed last start when finishing first and second in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes.

Saturday’s other highlights at Caulfield include two key lead-up races, the Group 2
Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m), where short-priced favourite Heresy is stepping up to 1400m for the first time, and the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m).

The other must-see action at Randwick includes the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m), which features the country’s #1 sprinter Nature Strip, and Tea Rose Stakes (1400m).

Over the next three months, Seven will bring fans Spring Racing’s finest thoroughbred action from around Australia, including the Caulfield Cup, Everest, Cox Plate and Golden Eagle.
