Channel 9 has confirmed it will not air the final season of the long-running daytime show Ellen when it ends in 2022, with a spokesperson telling TV Blackbox:

“The Ellen DeGeneres show won’t be returning to Channel 9 for its 19th and final season. It’s been a tremendous run and we wish Ellen all the best for her last season.”

The news was first reported by entertainment reporter Jayden Forster on Melbourne radio station 3AW, which is owned by Nine.

Ellen DeGeneres is ending the popular talk show after a year of controversy in which the star was accused of being mean behind the scenes and not living up to her ‘be kind’ mantra.

Much harsher accusations were made about the producers on the show. Staffers claimed racism was common and people were fired after taking medical leave or bereavement days to attend family funerals.

There were also accusations of sexual misconduct.

After an investigation by production company Warner Brothers, executive producers Ed Glavin and Kevin Leman, and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman were fired.

At the time of the ongoing controversy, Nine was in negotiations with Warner Brothers about the 2020 season. When negotiations broke down Nine started running repeats of Desperate Housewives until a deal was finally done.

It’s understood Foxtel will continue to air the program but it’s unlikely to run on free-to-air television.

  1. So Ellen is ending her shows herself, how is that the same as being dumped by 9?, bullshit news again, one tabloid says she is being dumped and another saying she is ending HER show.

    • Hi Dazza – yes, Ellen is ending her show with one more season. This story rightly points out that Nine, who have been showing her talk show at midday for some years now, will not be showing the final season. They have dumped it and don’t intend to air it at all. For the Australian market that’s pretty significant, especially given Ellen was a darling of the middle-of-the-day talk show set, and that has waned over the past couple of years.

  2. Everything comes out in the wash. This too shall pass. Hollywood is a doll house, the people of America work hard, have families. As so , we have no fame, we simply oil the machine. We may be invisible and unknown . But our dollars speak a tune creating the echos of broadway. When the curtain closes. Our next words are true and unrehearsed.

  3. That comment i gave , was channeled by a great author and a hard working American that wanted to speak their minds ..

  4. GOOD BY CHANNEL ‘9’ I THINK YOU FORGOT HER SHOW PAID YOU,NOT LIKE YOU PAYING HER, IT NOT LIKE SHE NEED,YOU SHE HAS ALOT MORE TV OUTLET SHOWING HER TALK, YOU ALL GOT UP SET GOT YOU’RE UNDERWEAR ALL BUNCHED,UP. SO CHANNEL ‘9’ SPIN THEM AND KICK ROCKS.!! ELLEN YOU GOT THIS.
