Do you have a burning question about how to get a children’s series commissioned?
Are you curious about what it’s like to work with a broadcaster or simply want to pitch your show? The ABC Children’s team is keen to hear from you!
ABC Children’s Development Executives Amanda Isdale and Michael Drake are meeting with Australian filmmakers across the creative spectrum, including producers, writers, animators and creators, to help them get their shows off the page and on the screen.
The Chat with ABC Children’s initiative is open to emerging, mid-career and seasoned practitioners who want to know more about the ABC’s submissions, development and commissioning process.
Speaking about the initiative Head of ABC Children’s Libbie Doherty stated:
“’Chat with ABC Children’s’ is a way for emerging and mid-career practitioners to gain productive face time with the ABC Children’s commissioning team.
In speaking with younger and new filmmakers, it became clear that there was not a direct path to engage with us, so we were determined to open up an avenue to facilitate conversations and share information on our creative priorities.
“ABC Children’s is committed to fresh and bold stories that reflect the lived experience of Australian children, spark their imaginations and take them on epic adventures.
To discover and develop new voices, we need to create avenues for filmmakers to bring those stories and perspectives to us. ‘Chat with ABC Children’s’ is a way of making sure young filmmakers get the chance to establish a relationship with the ABC as they seek to build their careers, and work towards bringing their own stories to our screens.”
The free 30-minute one-on-one sessions are also your opportunity to pitch an idea or ask our experts about any topic, from ABC Children’s commissioning priorities to the secrets behind making a brilliant children’s series for the international market.
While there’s no set path to a commission, every project starts with a conversation with a network executive. And Amanda and Michael are looking forward to hearing from Australian creatives, as part of the ABC’s commitment to outstanding new children’s content.
Chats with ABC Children’s will be held every fortnight from Friday 13 August.
