Stan secures Australian rights to acclaimed comedic series HACKS

Stan has today announced it will premiere all episodes of the brand new, critically acclaimed series Hacks this Friday.

The series, which has already been renewed for a second season, explores a dark mentorship that forms between Deborah Vance, a legendary Las Vegas comedian, and an entitled, outcast 25-year-old named Ava.

Multiple Emmy Award winner Jean Smart stars as a legendary Las Vegas comedian Deborah Vance who is trying to maintain relevance as the head of the casino where she performs tries to pare down on her performance dates.

Ava is a Gen Z comedy writer who is unable to find work due to being “canceled” over an insensitive tweet. The two reluctantly team up to freshen up Vance’s material and learn to respect each other’s differences.

These two talented comedic voices from different generations form an unlikely bond in this new comedy from “Broad City” alums Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky and Emmy Award winning executive producer Michael Schur.

The 10-part series stars Jean Smart (Mare of Eastown) as Deborah Vance, with Hannah Einbinder (Just For Laugh’s 2019 New Face of Comedy) as Ava. Joining Smart and Einbinder as a series regular is Carl Clemons-Hopkins (Hamilton) as Marcus, Deborah’s trusted longtime COO. 

Recurring guest stars include Kaitlin Olson (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia), Christopher McDonald (Happy Gilmore), Paul W. Downs (Broad City), Mark Indelicato (Ugly Betty), Poppy Liu (Better Call Saul), Johnny Sibilly (Pose), Meg Stalter (Tooning Out the News) and Rose Abdoo (Gilmore Girls).

Hacks has been nominated for 15 Emmy Awards including Most Outstanding Comedy Series and Most Outstanding Lead Actress for Jean Smart.

Hacks is a HBO Max series, created, written and showrun by by Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky. It is executive produced by Downs and Aniello via their Paulilu banner, Statsky via First Thought Productions, as well as Emmy® winners Michael Schur via Fremulon, David Miner for 3 Arts Entertainment, and Morgan Sackett. The series is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and distributed internationally by NBCUniversal Global Distribution.
